About us

In the heart of Senja

"Great place with great sanitary conditions. Quiet place by the seafront. You can fish directly from the pier. It is also a great starting point for mountain hikes. We have been here for three nights and we are definitely coming back."

- Camping enthusiasts Lill

Fjordbotn Camping is idyllically placed right next to the fjord “Stønesbotn” on the north side of Senja. With our sentral location we make a natural stop for the night, or a perfect base to stay and explore Senja. We are close to the national tourist road Senja, 7,4 miles from Botnhamn ferry pier. If you come from Gryllefjord it is 46 miles, and if you come from the mainland by Finnsnes it is 28 miles until you're at our front door. Fjordbotn Camping is a small family business owned by two brother, Ernst Hugo and Stein Gunnar Eriksen. They officially took over the campsite in 2014 after their parents, Alf and Erna Eriksen. Alf and Erna built the campsite which opened in 1992, then originally as a supplement to farming. Today the campsite has gone through extensive renovations and expansions. Our clear goal is to become an year round offerer of accommodation and low threshold activities. Our campsite is for those who come with a tent, motorhome and caravan, who seek a traditional campsite with all facilities. It is also for those who wish to rent a cabin or an apartment for their stay. We can be helpful with arranging transportation to and from the airport and the boat dock. Don't hesitate to ask if you need help planning your vacation.

Senja

Senja is the majestic and beautiful island which extends between Kvaløya and Tromsø in the north, and Andenes and Harstad in the south. Senja, with its wild and beautiful nature, is often referred to as “Norway in miniatyr”. Here you can find chalk white beaches, steep mountains and deep fjords. Looking out at the ocean you can experience the midnight sun, or see the sun set in the sea. In the winter it is simply countless of perfect places you can walk in silence and experience the mood and the magic only the northern lights can bring out in a human soul. Hundreds of peaks is a favorite both summers and winters. If you feel most comfortable by the sea, a boat trip is a perfect activity. A proof that the simple life is the best life. Another amazing way to experience Senja is by bike, either for a daytrip or as a form of transportation. Then you really have time to soak inn all the impressions provided by the wild and beautiful nature. Do you love fishing, or maybe you want to try for the first time? Senja offers possibilities for all. You can either throw from land and fish in the sea for free, or you can fish in freshwaters with a fishing license. If you are hunting for the big salmon, Senja offers multiple salmon rivers. The national tourist road Senja starts in Botnhamn in North Senja and takes you to Gryllefjord on the south side, with detours to the fishing villages Husøy and Mefjordvær. Regardless of which way you come, it is worth spending some time in Senja, taking a detour and maybe experiencing some local food from one of the island's restaurants. Either way Senja is a place where the drive itself is worth it.
